Tracey & Sassy – how she brought back a shut down dressage horse to joy in movement
Tracey so wanted to be in this clinic that she organised a week off just in case – and when there was a drop out, in she came. Sassy is a young warmblood, 6 years old, if I remember correctly, who had shut down with all that intensive dressage work, up to medium level dressage by 6 years old…
She had gone dead in the eye, was not moving forward properly any more and was genrally becoming less and less responsive. This new baby was so different from Tracey’s previous experience that she was searching for a solution.
One of the joyful highlights of the week for all of us was watching and feeling Sassy burst into joyous play with Tracey. And this beautiful outcome took quite a lot of loving dedication from Tracey, because Sassy had been shut down deep.
As Tracey said, Sassy had already been intensively saddle trained. Her job now is to take that joy into the saddle work and use the energy of that play and joy for advanced collection. Wow, what a beautiful journey they have started on. I can imagine how delightful it’s going to be to watch this pair when they go back out into competition again.
