Thumbelina – a very special “for sale”
You see people all the time writing in horse ads – “to good home only” but Thumbelina is only to go to an extraordinary home, because she’s an extraordinary young horse.
So only extraordinary homes need apply.
So what’s an extraordinary home?
- Someone who would be focussed on treating Thumbelina with consideration and dignity.
- Someone who listens to her.
- Someone who will keep her with other horse company.
- Someone who will look after her physical well being.
- Just as importantly, someone who will look after her emotional well-being.
- Preferably someone who will appreciate that she has been barefoot since birth and trimmed properly since birth so her bone growth has been perfect.
- Someone who will seriously appreciate her.
She has none of the nervousness that you usually see in a young horse. If her handling continues to be good, (and she’s only going to a home where her life WILL be good) then she and her rider will be able to look after each other nicely.
Thumbelina is a 5 year old unstarted youngster ready for the next step. She is that unusual colour that Cat calls light bay and I call dark buckskin.
Her sire is Anawa Mahushka, some people consider him to be Tasmania’s most versatile performance sire. Click here to see Anawa. Hmmm … you can see where she got that extraordinary nature from. Her dam is Rapunzel - a Clydsdale / Throughbred cross, who also has a stunning nature.
You can see Thumbelina and her mother Rapunzel, here at our farm at Rokeby, just outside of Warragul in Victoria. Ring her owner Cat on 0438 387149 or me (Jenny) on 0417 863394
Thumbelina is a solid, strong, rounded girl, beautifully double backed. About 15.5 hands high although I haven’t measured her properly.
She is exactly the type that people had in mind when they started to cross Thoroughbred and Clydsdale.
She’s a good do’er who gets on with other horses easily. She moved into our herd here at Rokeby with minimal organisation on my part. I gave her one horse of mine the first day, then two more the next day, then moved the whole herd in on the third day. She melded into the herd easily. (I know that can be a big deal if you don’t own your own land!)
She’s been taught basic ground work and leads well I noticed, even under the pressure of walking out onto a new farm. She float trained easily although she has only travelled twice – but travelled like a dream both times.
She has had a human on her back and was as unflappable about that as she is about everything else that has been introduced in the right way.
When she has settled in to her new home and bonded to her new person, she will be ready to go on with the starting process.
Whoever gets Thumbelina is going to be a very lucky person. She is only for sale due to a serious change in circumstances. I told Cat to put $5,000 on her to make sure that you take her as seriously as she deserves – but she’s for sale at $2,500.
(Jenny Pearce here again): Here is a little story that tells volumes about why this youngster is so special.
The other day I was standing near our gateway when the whole herd of horses all came galloping towards me.
I wasn’t in the slightest bit concerned about my position a little bit out from the narrow gateway because they are all well mannered horses who wouldn’t dream of hurting me.
Just at the last moment, as Thumbelina started coming into the narrower part of the paddock, another horse drove Thumbelina away from them and right into me at a flat gallop.
She did the most amazingly athletic and controlled levade – a slow motion rear and she swung aorund in the rear,- up and over the back of the horse beside her – so that she didn’t bump into the silly human who was right in her path…
at a flat gallop…
Whew, that was seriously athletic. And even more than that, it shows that she has that very special in-built desire to look after the human.
That kind of personality is worth it’s weight in gold.
