Depression and farmers

The other day, I was travelling to a horse expo a long way from home and noticed a skinny, weak looking flock of sheep in a bald, bare paddock beside the road – little to no food that I could see.   And it’s the start of winter…

I suspect that my reaction was the same as any other animal lover, farmer or not.  My reaction itself wasn’t useful, but maybe this article will be.

This area of New South Wales is suffering the longest drought on record.  and when I thought about it, I knew that whoever owned those sheep was suffering from depression.  Nobody could look at those sheep in those circumstances every day and not be depressed.

So I decided to write this article, not about suffering animals in a drought – but about the farmer in depression who looks after the stock and the land and how you, you reading this article right now, can change that.

So who am I, to write such an article?  I am an alternative medicine health professional, working for the last fourteen years now, helping people beat all kinds of health issues - routinely including depression, releasing old trauma, anxieties and phobias.  And I’ve written and published books that empower people to know how to help themselves in those and other situations.

Some of what I am going to say is “left field” – maybe different to the way that you have been thinking before – but I’ve been doing this for quite a while now and sharing it with others for quite a while now and I promise you that it works.

When you are suffering from depression, you are suffering purely and simply because something has to change.

To get rid of depression, it is as simple as figuring out what has to change and changing it.

“Yeah, right….” I hear you thinking.  But the proof of this will be that it works for you – or not.  So read on….

Early last year, I had a series of monumental light bulb moments – insights that ended up becoming the book “Pathway to Heaven on Earth”.  Now don’t panic, it’s not a religious book.  But I’m here to tell you that heaven on earth is what it felt like to me when I “got” those insights, understood them and started to act on them consistently.

And heaven on earth is what it’s been feeling like for all the other people who act on these and their own insights too.

What that book will explain to you is how you are soooo… connected to your animals  that you feel their pain as if it is your own.

Yep, that’s right.  You’ve been nurturing these animals and nurturing this land, for however long – some of you since you were knee high to a grass hopper, that you have become so connected to them that you are experiencing their pain as if it were your own.

When you are depressed, it can take a bit for a concept as big as that to sink in – but that’s all right.  Maybe read the last two paragraphs again.  It will sink in better and make perfect sense though when you read Pathway to Heaven on Earth.

And in many cases, you may be experiencing the pain of the land as if it was your own too.  For some of you, it’s like the land is in your blood, you are so connected to it.

I know this is a big concept and different, but just suppose for a moment that I’m right in what I just said.  If I am right, then how can you get rid of the depression?

It is as simple as figuring out what you have to change – and then changing it.  And then the pain just goes away.  The depression lifts and the pain just goes away.  Read that again, too, to make sure that it sinks in – it’s a huge concept.

I know this will seem far fetched to some of you reading this.  But I promise you, the proof will be in your depression lifting as you decide what to change as a result of these insights.

In fact, notice it now.  If you are a farmer suffering from depression, notice how you feel right now.  Notice how even thinking about your connection to your stock and the land and about how you feel their pain as if it was your own – notice that your depression has lightened a little.  Figuring out what to actually do about the situation, will most likely get rid of the rest of it.  And if there is anything left, there will just be something else that has to change too…

If you know a farmer who is suffering from depression, then copy this link and send it to them.  Or get the books for them or email me so that I can send the book them or something.

I’m going to recommend another book that will help you resolve your depression problem.  It seems like a funny book to recommend to a farmer, because I wrote Zen Connection with Horses specifically for horsey people.  And I haven’t got round to writing the book that’s specific for non horsey people (that book is cooking now!)  But you can use the same approach with sheep or cattle too, with minor differences that will be obvious as you go along.

Pathway to Heaven is a short, easy to read book for busy people.  It’s a series of very short stories about the people and the insights that explain how I came to understand that we feel other people and even animals’ pain as if it were our own and what to do about that.

Zen Connection with Horses is a book and audio lesson set that explains in great detail how to understand our connection to our horse (in your case the sheep or cattle or even the land) and how to understand what it is that you need to change for your depression to just vanish.

The changes will be different for all of you, so I would just be speculating about what change it will take to completely rid yourself of depression.  The books will give you the insights and process to follow to get whatever understanding you need.

And if you have any problems understanding how you translate the horse book into the insights that you are looking for, for sheep, cattle or the land itself, feel free to email me jenny@bookswithspirit.  com (Take the spaces out when you type in the address. I put that space in to stop the spammers.) I travel away from home teaching, but emails and phone will still get me.

Now a lot of you who are reading this article will be close to broke, with your credit cards maxed out.  So if you are in that situation, email me and I’ll send you the books, no charge.  Depression is a blight on all of us, so in that way, it’s my contribution to the world.  Also, Pathway to Heaven on Earth is a pass along book – so as you pass it along, other people will pay for it or not as they read it.  (You’ll see what I mean when you read it yourself.)  So you’ll be doing me a favour by increasing my sales as you pass the book along.

For the those who can afford it, click here to go to the shop and buy those books with my “love them or get your money back” guarantee.

And for your sake, give it a go – you’ve got nothing to lose except depression…            Jenny
