Bobby’s Diaries Discussion Group started

Wow, it just keeps getting better and better.  Wendy in England asked for a discussion group based around the book “Bobby’s Diaries – Straight From the Horse’s Mouth to You” and a bunch of enthusiastic members came in over the next couple of days, enjoying connecting with each other all over the world, sharing their stories and their photos, touching each other’s hearts.   They are a seriously nice bunch of people, very supportive of each other, encouraging each other’s progress and the personal growth that is so much a part of great horsemanship.  I love it!

We learned that a horse’s heart can sing with joy

Angela and OrionYesterday we finished a private clinic here at Tanjil South that featured an amazing lady and her Friesian “soul connection” – her horse for those of you who don’t talk like that yet! This little horse (not so little, really) had been really intimidating. He would barge straight in on you, had had HEAPS of training costing lots of money and the only way she could get hin to stand off her was to be REALLY hard on him – which didn’t fit with who she was, who she wanted to be or with the relationship that she wanted with her horse.

We pretty quickly made the discovery that there was a connection with his “oh shit I’m dead” zone and his barging. (See the electronic Bobby’s Diaries – Straight From the Horse’s Mouth to You” for an explanation of that concept click here to buy it now.) And nobody learns anything in the oh shit zone except survival reactions. So we went about establishing a place of deep comfort for this lad and then introduced our need to have him stand off us in the “not too sure zone” where all thinking learning takes place.

We made the discovery that most if not all of his training had taken place in the “oh shit I’m dead zone” and that although he deeply wanted to be close to his person and be with them, he was terribly afraid of what would happen when he got close (whacked for barging on top of them!) – thus he lived his life in a constant and awful fear of humans.

We realised that Friesians had been war horses and as such had been selected for their ability to keep going ahead through fear and even pain (that’s where the barging comes from), and for their devotion to their person. (Lots of other characteristics too I’m sure, but these were the ones that were particularly noticeable throughout the clinic!)

We learned the art of having major breakthroughs by not doing very much at all. (And that’s the understatement of the year)

We learned that a HORSE’S heart can sing and almost burst with joy too when us slow humans “get it”.

We had the most amazing days in the most gentle and connected space.

That was my week, what was yours?

April clinic in Helensville, near Auckland, New Zealand

We have an upcoming clinic in New Zealand in late April at Liberty Circle Ranch, 222 Rimmer Rd, Helensville.

This is a beautiful property with a round pen, covered arena, small paddocks & yards for keeping the horses over night.

There are various obstacles & challenges set up for playing with your horse. There is also a shower, long drop & a basic kitchen if people want to camp or there is an excellent motel Parakai Geothermal Resort just a couple of minutes down the road.  Shani might be able to get a good deal if anyone is interested in staying there. Each unit has it’s own private mineral pool. There are 2 public hot pools just down the road in Parakai as well if anyone needs a relaxing soak after a busy day.

The woodhill forest is only about 1 km up the road as well.

We’re going racing with Celtic Peace! Woo hoooo!!!

Celtic Peace and MelissaThoroughbred racing is one of the biggest areas of misunderstandings between horses and people in the horse world.  And we aim to have a positive influence on that.

I am thrilled to bits to announce that last Friday I was given my thoroughbred racing trainers license and we’re going racing Bobby’s Way.  I am soo… excited!!!

Celtic Peace is filled with excitement and power and soo… ready  to go.

We had to dig really deep into my patience to establish a real deep comfort zone for him and now he’s using his body in a truly beautiful way that will enable him to make a come back as a 10 year old sprinter.  Yes, a ten year old sprinter!  It’s going to knock everyones socks off when he makes a successful come back!  That’s what’s going to make the industry sit up and take notice and hopefully wonder how they can have some of that too.

HE’S teaching US how to go about it – and we listen.  THAT”S going to be the key to our success.  We’ll be down at the track by next Monday I hope and find out how all the wonderful work he’s been doing at home has really been going.  Thanks to Melissa who has been doing interval work at a gallop up the six acre paddock and out in the bush and so far we’ve managed to stay bare foot too.

I rehabilitated Celtic Peace a long time ago after two damaged tendons, before he raced for the first time and then three years later, bought him back after he broke down in Darwin for the last time.  We fell in love with him the first time he was here and went hunting for him when he dropped out of the racing scene.  We had no idea at the time whether we were going to be able to pull off another miracle rehabilitation from blown knees and a damaged pelvis this time, but boy is he OK!

Eight of the ten people who helped me bring him home and now own him (or vice versa!) are “healers” in some form or other.

You could be reading the electronic book that is the basis for listening to Celtic Peace in five minutes through one of the most secure financial sites in the world.

Advice to a reader about a biting horse

Here’s an email excerpt from from Sue in Ontario

I have a horse, a thoroughbred that I have had now for almost 3 years.  He came with huge issues that had been shut down with force most likely and he uses biting to communicate with me.  I have learned to appreciate the subtle nuances of a bite.  I bet that sounds strange, whether he is mad at me or the world in general, or if he just wants my attention, there are so many ways that he actually bites.  And by the way you are spot on about fast and accurate. He is a wonderful teacher, like the one you hated in school but learned to appreciate later.    The biting has much improved, I clicker train him so he has even more reasons to bite at times.  You talk about hearing what they have to say, thanks for saying it out loud because Busy, (Business Image) has a lot to say and he comes in load and clear.  Too clear sometimes.  But when we work the best together is when we both have respect for each other and when it is quiet.  He is a very sensitive boy, both spatially and noise wise so I do my best to speak to him clearly and softly, in return I get clearly and softly, what more can we hope for?

Sue is happy to share our emails back and forth and my advice to her, with other readers who may have similar problems.
