Barefoot or not?
I barefoot my horses where I can according to the fabulous principles and trimming instructions that I learned from Marjorie Smith’s informative website www.barefoothorse.com
However, I have two racehorses who are not allowed to race barefoot in Australia.
When you’re barefoot trimming yourself, I know from experience how much difference a hoof stand can make. A good hoof stand is worth its weight in gold!
www.hoof-it.com South America, is selling the new Stramet hoof stand. It has both a post and a cradle and the supports are covered with rubber and comes with a draft sized cradle as well.
The famous Bobby of “Bobby’s Diaries” fame has been barefooted for quite a while now. Not heard of him? You’re kidding! Click here to read more about the best horse training book ever

I am commenting on how much I really like the “Hoof-it Hoofstand.” Personally, I think it is a fabulous tool for all horse care providers, not just farriers.
I am a competitor on the Circuit on the West Coast, primarily California, and have been using the “Hoof-it Hoofstand” for quite some time. When I first purchased it, I had no idea how much I would eventually come to rely on it. As a horseman (not a farrier) my use of this tool is a bit different. The grooms and myself have found this particular Hoofstand to be the ideal tool for inserting/removing caulks from our horse’s shoes and general hoof care. It is even useful when applying oil/dressing to hooves. It really takes the strain off of our backs and helps to free up our hands, making it easier to complete the task.
I have been surprised at the frequency with which other people have inquired about this hoofstand after seeing it around our barn and barn isle. A handful of equestrian friends and even a few farriers have purchased and are now using the same “Hoof-it Hoofstand.”
I have yet to hear a less than positive comment about this product. Speaking for myself, when I find something that I really like, and works the way that it is supposed to, I usually want to share that information with others in an effort to help them in their search for the right tool for their needs. I hope you find this “Hoof-it Hoofstand” to be as useful as I have.
