What if every “problem” that you have with your horse is just a step on the way to getting what you want?
Here is an excellent article called “Following the Golden Thread” by: Anita G. Wheeler that I have used to make what I think is an interesting point about us and our horses. Enjoy!
Anita: Wouldn’t it be great if there actually was a golden thread that you could follow, knowing that it was leading you exactly on the path that you needed to take and that you would be “led” to each and every person, place and event that was absolutely perfect for you! Well, guess what?
There is a golden thread. It is called “Synchronicity,” but I like to think of it as “Power Flow.”
About ten years ago, I found myself thrown into the world of Carl Jung and the enlightening term synchronicity. I was on a personal journey in Northern Canada on a retreat with a group of like-minded individuals. That process involved the study of “dreams” and “synchronicity.”
Synchronicity was defined by Jung as “a causal connecting principle” an essentially mysterious connection between the personal psyche and what we perceive as the material world, based on the fact that they are both just forms of energy.
Some examples of synchronicity are:
- You are driving in your car and your thinking about a particular person and the phone rings, and it’s the person you were thinking about…. synchronicity…. meaningful connection… no apparent casual connection. (They weren’t returning your call … it was “out of the blue”.)
- A thought comes to you as you are driving down the road about “taking a detour” and “going a different direction to work today.” You take the detour and later find out that had you taken the same old route you would have been in a huge traffic jam… meaningful coincident.
- You have a dream about something you should do that seems totally out of whack..however, you follow through and find that it was exactly what you needed to do to move you forward in your business… meaningful coincident.
How can you “catch” the Golden Thread and let your life move you to the next step?
Synchronicity is like a “Universal” whisper, a thread, a voice, saying “follow me.” It is an invitation that says “surrender” to the process and let me lead you to the next step. Everything you need is always in the here and now.
Follow the golden thread and cultivate the ability to be “still” when you need to be “still” and take action with you need to take action. Be expectant that whatever you need is already on its way. No matter what it is you are currently “seeing” be expectant that what you are wanting and needing is on it’s way.
I promise you it is an amazing way to live and you will NOT believe what will show up for you.

Take a moment, if you will, to think about the synchronicity of events that have led you to reading this website today – and what might change as a result of relating Anita’s words to you and your horse. How might you think of it differently if you think of Anita’s words when your horse behaves badly? Or goes lame? Or resists you?
Expect that what you need to solve your “problem” is already on its way. Expect that the right teacher, the right book, the right article, the right website, whatever… is already on its way. KNOW that there is a “rightness” to whatever is happening right now with you and your horse.
Assume the rightness of whatever it is that is happening, so that you can follow the golden thread, easily and smoothly, to whatever it is that you are creating with you and your horse.
I am laughing to myself as I am writing this blog today. It is a little different from my normal subjects here, but it’s oh such a useful way of looking at things that we normally think of as “problems” with our horses.
